Ocean Quest review: the Vilamoura catamaran, Benagil trips and parasailing

Who Ocean Quest are and where they sail from

Ocean Quest is a Vilamoura company, and that is the first thing to get right. When we read oceanquestalgarve.com in August 2026 it described a business founded in 2017 around one custom-built motor catamaran, also called Ocean Quest, with separate ladies' and men's toilets, a fully stocked bar and a music system. Listings we saw put the boat at about 18 m. The fleet grew with an Axopar 24 ft speedboat in 2021 and a purpose-built parasailing boat in 2023. The Viator listing for its Benagil tour gives the meeting point as Vilamoura Marina, Pier Q, and the operator name as Ocean Quest LDA.

Ocean Quest does not leave from Marina de Albufeira. Vilamoura is the next marina east, a short taxi or car ride from Albufeira, and the operator's site does not mention pick-ups. If you are staying on The Strip or in the Old Town, count the transfer both ways before you compare it with the boats in our marina guide. One more correction to older copy on this site: we found no jet-ski hire on the operator's pages. Ocean Quest's water-toy side is parasailing plus towed rides (ringo), waterski and wakeboard arranged with the speedboat. For jet-ski in Albufeira itself, see our jet-ski and parasailing guide.

Benagil, dolphins and sunset: the tours Ocean Quest sells

The operator lists five shared formats plus private charters. Durations and inclusions below are as the operator and its platform listings describe them when we checked; the live listing is the rule.

• Benagil Cave Tour, about 3.5 hours. The catamaran runs west along the coast to the Benagil cave, passing Praia da Marinha, the Arco de Albandeira, the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Rocha and Praia do Ninho de Andorinha. A welcome drink, regional liqueur tastings and sweet snacks are included, with a swim stop when the sea allows. The Viator listing caps the group at 70. This is the operator's version of a Benagil cave tour, with a longer run than the Albufeira boats because Vilamoura is further east.
• Benagil Sunset, about 3.5 to 4 hours. The same route timed for evening light, with swimming when conditions allow.
• Dolphin Quest, about 2.5 hours. A marine-life search with a marine biologist on board. Listings we saw say 50 cents of each adult ticket goes to AIMM, a marine research association. Dolphins are wild and sightings are not guaranteed; read our dolphin watching guide for what the odds look like.
• Sunset Vibes, about 2.5 hours. A sunset cruise with live music or a DJ and the bar open. The closest thing to a party boat in this fleet.
• Ocean Quest Experience. Sangria, tapas and a swim, listed on TripAdvisor at 2 to 3 hours.
• Private charters. Half-day, full-day and sunset hires of the catamaran, the speedboat or the yachts the operator arranges for events and weddings.

The cave itself is governed by the Capitania do Porto de Portimão. According to the Capitania notice, motor boats enter Benagil through the west entrance for about two minutes, with at most five motor boats inside at once, no landing on the inner beach and no swimming or inflatables into the cave. A large catamaran follows the same rules as a small speedboat, so do not expect to step onto the sand.

Parasailing and water toys from Vilamoura Marina

Parasailing is the operator's second business since 2023. Flights go up from the purpose-built parasailing boat off Vilamoura, single, double or triple, with roughly ten minutes in the air. Third-party listings give a minimum age of three years, which is unusually low, and say photos and GoPro hire are optional extras. Wind decides whether a flight goes: too little or too much and the slot moves. Ringo, waterski and wakeboard are sold as add-ons or inside a private speedboat charter. Prices are on the operator's site and on the platforms, and they change; we do not copy them here.

Who Ocean Quest suits, and who should book from Albufeira

Book Ocean Quest if you are staying in or near Vilamoura, want a big stable catamaran with toilets and a bar rather than a bouncing speedboat, and like the idea of tastings and a swim stop built into the cave trip. The biologist on the dolphin trip is a real difference for families with curious children. It also suits anyone who wants to parasail from a marina rather than a beach.

Book an Albufeira boat instead if you are already in Albufeira and the point is the cave. The 2.5-hour caves and dolphins tour from Marina de Albufeira costs from about €34 when we checked in August 2026, is a 20-minute walk from the Old Town, and spends less of its time in transit. Where Ocean Quest check in

Check-in is at Vilamoura Marina; platform listings name Pier Q, and photos on TripAdvisor show a shop-front office in the marina building. Confirm the pontoon and the check-in time on your voucher, because a 70-seat catamaran does not wait for one taxi. Marina de Albufeira, covered in our marina guide, is a different harbour about 5 km further west.

How to book Ocean Quest and what to check on the listing

Ocean Quest sells through its own website and through Viator, TripAdvisor and regional activity platforms; we did not find its boats on GetYourGuide when we checked. The Viator listing offers a full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours ahead. Before you pay, check these points:

• Departure marina: Vilamoura, not Albufeira, and how you will get there and back.
• Which boat: the catamaran for Benagil, dolphins and sunset; the speedboat for private hire; the parasailing boat for flights.
• Whether the swim stop and tastings are on your date's listing; the swim depends on the sea.
• Child and senior prices, which the operator lists separately, and the age line for parasailing.
• Weather rule: the skipper decides. If the operator cancels you are refunded or rebooked; if you miss check-in you are not.

Season is April to October with July and August busiest. The catamaran is large, so it sells out less often than the named speedboats in Albufeira, but sunset dates in peak weeks still go days ahead.

Ocean Quest compared with Atlantic Quest, Parasailing Vilamoura and Dream Wave

The name people mix up is Atlantic Quest. Both are in Vilamoura Marina, but Atlantic Quest hires out two private motor yachts with drinks and tapas included, while Ocean Quest sells seats on a shared catamaran. Read the first word of the listing. Parasailing Vilamoura is the other flight option in the same marina; compare flight time, tandem options and the age line. From Albufeira, Dream Wave is the nearest all-round rival: the yellow Dreamer speedboat for caves and dolphins, plus parasailing and jet-ski from Marina de Albufeira. Ocean Quest's advantage is a comfortable catamaran with tastings and a biologist; its disadvantage for an Albufeira-based reader is the departure port.
