Atlantic Quest review: luxury yacht charters from Vilamoura Marina

Atlantic Quest charters two private motor yachts from Vilamoura Marina, east of Albufeira, for sunset, half-day and full-day cruises with drinks and tapas included. Here is what you get and when a shared boat is the better buy.

Official website

Formats
Private boat tour Albufeira, Sunset cruise Albufeira

Private luxury yacht charters from Vilamoura Marina on the yachts Crystal and Diamond: sunset, half-day and full-day cruises with drinks and tapas included. Not an Albufeira Marina operator.

Who Atlantic Quest are and where they sail from

Atlantic Quest is a private yacht charter company, not a shared-ticket tour operator. When we read atlanticquest.co.uk in August 2026 it listed two motor yachts, both berthed at Vilamoura Marina: Crystal, a Princess V65 of 19.37 m that takes up to 12 guests with two crew, and Diamond, which takes up to 14 guests with two crew and has three cabins and three bathrooms. The company is a registered tourism operator (RNAAT 1257/2017).

The important fact for anyone searching from Albufeira: Atlantic Quest sails from Vilamoura Marina, not from Marina de Albufeira. Vilamoura is the next marina east along the coast, a short taxi or car ride away, and the operator's site does not mention pick-ups from Albufeira. Plan your own transfer and allow time for it.

Sunset, half-day and full-day cruises on Crystal and Diamond

The operator sells four formats, all private: you hire the whole yacht and crew, not a seat.

  • Sunset cruise: an evening run along the coast off Vilamoura in the light people book a sunset cruise for. This is the format most comparable to the shared sunset boats from Albufeira, at a very different price level and group size.
  • Half-day cruise: a morning or afternoon on the water with a swim stop where conditions allow.
  • Full-day cruise: the longest option. The operator's TripAdvisor page mentions the Benagil caves, Ria Formosa and Ponta da Piedade as destinations; the coast east or west of Vilamoura is a long run at yacht speed, so confirm the route for your date with the crew.
  • Custom private charter: route and hours agreed with the operator.

What is included is spelled out on the operator's site: every cruise comes with prosecco, white and rosé wine, beer, soft drinks, water, mixed fruit and Portuguese tapas and snacks. Crystal cruises and Diamond full-day cruises add champagne. Both yachts have air conditioning, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth sound; Crystal lists water-sports equipment on board. Prices are not published per person on the pages we read, so ask for a quote and divide by your group size before comparing with anything else on this site.

Not a BBQ boat and not a pirate ship

Atlantic Quest appears in searches for beach BBQ days and pirate-ship cruises, so this needs saying plainly. The operator does not list a beach barbecue and does not run a pirate-themed boat. Food on board is tapas and drinks, served on the yacht.

If a grill on a beach is what you want, that is the BBQ boat trip format: shared catamaran days from Albufeira Marina, six hours, from about €70 when we checked in August 2026, with lunch cooked on the sand. The GetYourGuide card on this page is that product, the 6-hour sunset beach BBQ from Albufeira, and the provider named on it is not Atlantic Quest. If the children want a costume-and-cannons boat, that is the pirate ship format. The best-known one, the Santa Bernarda, sails from Portimão, not from Albufeira and not from Vilamoura.

Who Atlantic Quest suits, and who should book a shared boat

Book Atlantic Quest if you are a group of up to 12 or 14 who want the boat to yourselves, an adult-style evening with sparkling wine rather than a party deck with a DJ, and you are staying in or near Vilamoura or do not mind the drive. It also suits anniversaries, proposals and small corporate groups where the cost per head is not the deciding factor.

Book a shared boat instead if you are two people on a budget, if the point of the trip is the Benagil cave with a dolphin search on the way, or if you want to leave from Albufeira Marina and walk back to the Old Town afterwards. A shared catamaran or speedboat from Albufeira costs a fraction of a private yacht and gets you closer to the cave mouth under the same Capitania rules. For a private boat that does start in Albufeira, see our private boat tours guide.

Where Atlantic Quest check in

Check-in is at Vilamoura Marina, the largest marina in Portugal by the operator's own description, with 826 berths. The operator does not publish a berth number or a parking note online, so confirm the exact meeting point when you book. Our marina guide covers Marina de Albufeira only; for how Vilamoura, Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos differ as starting points, see compare departure points.

How to book Atlantic Quest and what to confirm

Atlantic Quest takes bookings through its own website, by email and by WhatsApp; we did not find its yachts on GetYourGuide when we checked. That means the usual platform protections do not apply: read the operator's own cancellation and weather terms before you pay a deposit.

Confirm these points in writing before you commit:

  • Which yacht, Crystal or Diamond, and the maximum number of guests for your booking.
  • Total price, what it covers (crew, fuel, drinks, tapas, champagne) and what costs extra.
  • Route and hours: whether the cruise stays off Vilamoura or runs to Benagil, Ria Formosa or Ponta da Piedade.
  • Weather rule: the skipper decides on sea state; ask what happens to your deposit if the operator cancels and whether you can move the date.
  • Children and mobility: the operator says Crystal takes guests of all ages, but a motor yacht has steps and open decks, so ask about life jackets in small sizes.

Season is April to October with July and August busiest. Private yachts sell by the day, so a sunset slot in peak summer needs booking well ahead.

Atlantic Quest compared with AlgarExperience, Santa Bernarda and other private yachts

AlgarExperience is the shared alternative: its Belize Terceiro catamaran runs the BBQ days and sunset trips from Albufeira Marina from about €70 a head, with a toilet, shade and a bar, but a large group and a fixed timetable. Santa Bernarda is the pirate ship people picture, with cannons and a wooden deck, and it sails from Portimão. For a like-for-like private yacht comparison, read our pages on Elite Yacht Charters and Oursea Yachts and compare capacity, departure marina and what drinks are included per hour on the water. Atlantic Quest's advantage is a clear all-inclusive drinks list and two well-appointed yachts; its disadvantage for an Albufeira-based reader is the departure port.

FAQ: Atlantic Quest

Does Atlantic Quest sail from Albufeira?

No. Both yachts, Crystal and Diamond, are berthed at Vilamoura Marina, the next marina east of Albufeira. The operator's site says "find us at the Vilamoura Marina" and does not mention pick-ups from Albufeira, so you need your own taxi or car and should allow time for the drive. If leaving from Albufeira Marina matters, look at the shared boats or the private tours guide instead.

Is Atlantic Quest a pirate ship?

No. Atlantic Quest runs two modern motor yachts with no pirate theme. The pirate ship people picture on the Algarve is the Santa Bernarda, a wooden ship with cannons that sails from Portimão. Our pirate ship guide explains what those family cruises include and how to reach Portimão from Albufeira.

Does Atlantic Quest do a beach BBQ?

Not on the pages we read. Every Atlantic Quest cruise includes prosecco, wine, beer, soft drinks, water, fruit and Portuguese tapas served on board; champagne is added on Crystal and on full-day Diamond cruises. A beach barbecue with lunch cooked on the sand is a different product: shared six-hour catamaran days from Albufeira Marina, from about €70 when we checked in August 2026.

How many people fit on Crystal and Diamond?

Crystal, a Princess V65 of 19.37 m, takes up to 12 guests plus two crew. Diamond takes up to 14 guests plus two crew and has three cabins and three bathrooms. Those are the operator's own figures. Because you hire the whole yacht, the cost per head falls as the group grows; a couple pays the same as a group of twelve.

How much does an Atlantic Quest charter cost?

The operator did not publish per-person prices on the pages we read, so you request a quote for the yacht, the format and the date. Expect a per-boat price that covers crew, fuel and the included drinks and tapas; ask what is extra. To judge value, divide the quote by your group size and compare with a shared sunset cruise or BBQ day from Albufeira at about €70 a head.

Can Atlantic Quest take me to the Benagil cave?

The operator's TripAdvisor listing mentions the Benagil caves as a destination, and its full-day cruise is the format that could reach them. Benagil is a long run west of Vilamoura, and under the Capitania rules a motor yacht passes the cave from outside like any other boat, with no landing. Confirm the route and time on the water with the crew before you book.

Is Atlantic Quest on GetYourGuide?

We did not find its yachts on GetYourGuide when we checked in August 2026; bookings go through the operator's own site, email or WhatsApp. That means platform cancellation cover does not apply, so read the operator's own terms on deposits, weather cancellations and date changes before you pay. The GetYourGuide card on this page is a shared BBQ product from Albufeira, not this operator.
