albufeira.boats is written by Laura Melo Almeida and a small team who review and test the boat trips, cave tours, kayak sessions and other water activities sold from Albufeira. We compare what each ticket includes, read the rules that apply on the day, and write it down in plain language so you can pick the right trip the first time.
Who we are
Laura heads the review team. The team is small on purpose: a few people who know the Albufeira coast, read Portuguese, and are willing to walk to the marina before writing about it. We do not work for any operator, platform or marina, and none of us has a stake in a boat. Our address is an email inbox, not a desk at Marina de Albufeira.
What this site does and does not do
We do three things. We explain each kind of trip, from a 2.5-hour caves and dolphins loop to a six-hour BBQ day or a guided kayak session, and say who it suits. We review the operators that sell from Albufeira and the platforms that list them. And we keep one decision guide that takes a constraint such as small children, a tight budget or seasickness and turns it into a short list.
We do not sell tickets, hold seats or run boats. When you click through to a listing, the contract is between you and the operator or the booking platform. We cannot change a date, refund a booking or ask a skipper to wait. If something goes wrong with a booking, the platform's help desk can act; we can only correct the page if the problem is a fact we got wrong.
How we make money
The site is paid for by affiliate links to GetYourGuide. When you book through one of our links, GetYourGuide pays us a commission out of its own share; the price you pay is the same as on GetYourGuide itself. Every booking button and calendar widget on the site is one of these links, they are marked as such, and the terms page sets out the arrangement in full.
Operators cannot pay for placement, for a higher position on a comparison page, or for a kinder review. We do not publish sponsored text as a review, and we do not remove a documented complaint because a brand asked. If an operator wants a factual error fixed, the route is the same as for any reader: send the evidence and we will check it.
How we research: five steps
Every guide and operator review goes through the same five checks before publication and at every update.
- Live listing. We read the current GetYourGuide or operator listing, not a brochure or last year's screenshot. Price, duration, boat name, child policy and cancellation window are taken from there and dated.
- Capitania notice. For anything that goes near Benagil, we read the current notice from the Capitania do Porto de Portimão (Edital 019/2024 and its amendment 009/2025) and quote the rules from the notice itself, not from a forum post.
- Meeting point and walking times. We confirm where each operator checks in and walk the route from the town, so the times we give are ones we have measured. The details live on the marina guide.
- Recent reviews. We read the latest reviews on the booking platforms and look for patterns, such as the wrong boat, late departures or no dolphin search, rather than the headline score alone.
- Dated updates. Each page carries the date it was last checked. When a price, a rule or a boat changes, we update the page and the date changes with it.
How often pages are updated and what the date means
Prices and listings on this coast move through the season, so we recheck the pages that quote them at least three times a year: before the season opens in spring, in peak summer, and again before the winter timetable. Operator pages are rechecked when a fleet, a boat name or a check-in point changes, and whenever a reader sends us something that does not match.
The date at the top of a page is the day we last checked its facts against the live sources. It is not the day the page was written, and it is not a promise that nothing has moved since. A price on this site is always "from about €34 when we checked in August 2026", never a quote. The booking page on the day you book is the only figure that counts.
How to send a correction
If a page is wrong, tell us. Email the address on the contact page with the page URL, the sentence you think is wrong, and where you saw the correct version, whether a listing, a notice or a confirmation email. We usually reply within two working days. If you are right, we fix the page and change its date; if we are unsure, we add a hedge and say so.
We can correct facts. We cannot act on a booking, and we do not publish or pass on personal data sent to us; the privacy page explains what we keep and for how long.
What "review" means on this site
A review here is a description of what an operator runs, what its tickets include, where it checks in and who the trip suits, checked against the sources above. We do not give star scores of our own. The ratings on our pages are the platforms' ratings, quoted with their review counts and the date we read them, because they rest on thousands of trips and ours would rest on a handful.
So a review tells you facts and fit: this operator runs the yellow Dreamer, its caves and dolphins loop is 2.5 hours, it suits families who want a fast boat and a swim stop, and it is a poor choice for anyone who gets seasick. Whether that is the right trip for you is your call, and the operator index is built to make that call quick.
FAQ: About albufeira.boats
Who writes albufeira.boats?
Laura Melo Almeida, head of reviews, and a small team who check and test boat trips and water activities sold from Albufeira. Every page carries her byline and a date. The team is not employed by any operator, platform or marina, and there is no public office; the author page has the full background and the email address for questions.
Do you sell tickets or take bookings?
No. We describe trips and operators and link to the live listing on GetYourGuide, where the booking is made and paid. We never hold seats, print vouchers or change dates. If a booking needs to be moved or refunded, the platform's help centre or the operator can do that; we cannot, and the contact page explains what we can help with instead.
How does the site make money?
Through partner links to GetYourGuide. When you book after clicking one of our links, GetYourGuide pays us a share of its own margin; your price is the same as if you had gone to GetYourGuide directly. Every booking button and calendar widget on the site is one of these links, and the arrangement is set out in full on the terms page.
Can an operator pay to be listed, ranked higher or reviewed more kindly?
No. Operators are listed because they sell trips from Albufeira, and their order on a page follows what the page is about, not a fee. We do not publish sponsored text as a review, and we do not remove a documented complaint because a brand asked. An operator who spots a factual error can send the evidence like any reader, and we will check it and fix the page.
What does the date at the top of a page mean?
It is the day we last checked the page's facts against the live listing, the current Capitania notice and the operator's own site. It is not the day the page was first written, and it is not a promise that nothing has changed since. Prices in particular move through the season, so treat every figure as dated and confirm it on the booking page before you pay.
How do I report a mistake on a page?
Email the address on the contact page with the page URL, the sentence you believe is wrong, and where you saw the correct version, such as a listing, a notice or a confirmation email. We usually reply within two working days. If you are right, the page is fixed and its date changes; if we cannot confirm either way, we hedge the sentence and say so.
