How booking works in this harbour
Most boats that leave Marina de Albufeira are on sale in three or four places at once. The operator puts a block of seats on GetYourGuide, another on Viator, sometimes on CheckYeti or Civitatis, and keeps the rest for its own website and its desk at the marina. The 09:30 departure on the yellow Dreamer is the same boat whichever logo is on your voucher. What changes is the price on that date, the cancellation window, the support language and who you write to if the morning goes wrong.
Platforms are paid by the operator, not through an extra fee on your ticket, so the headline price is usually the same as the operator's own site, give or take a few euros. When we compared the live listings in August 2026, the 2.5-hour caves and dolphins tour started from about €34 on GetYourGuide and the coastline tour from about €30; the price guide has the full table. Price is missing from the table on purpose. The same seat moves by date and by platform, and the gap is usually a few euros. - Con: no independent record of what you bought. Get the operator name, boat name, date, time and cancellation terms in writing before you pay.
- Con: the price is not reliably lower. Operators usually hold the same price everywhere; a desk discount happens but is not the rule.
Street sellers, hotel desks and beach stands
Albufeira has people selling boat trips on the Strip, on the beach and in hotel lobbies. Many are legitimate agents for real operators; some are not. The test is simple: ask which operator runs the boat and which boat it is, and ask for a receipt that names both. If the answer is "a nice boat" or the receipt only carries the agent's name, walk away. A hotel desk that "includes GetYourGuide" is often adding a margin; open the same listing on your phone and compare. If the price matches, fine. If not, you have found the mark-up.
What to check before you pay
- The boat. A named boat (Dreamer, X-Ride, Matrix, Belize Terceiro) tells you the format, the shade and whether there is a toilet. A generic "Albufeira boat trip" title can put you on any boat in the fleet.
- Duration and route. A 2-hour coastline tour and a 2.5-hour caves and dolphins tour share a photo but not a route. Dolphins are wild and not guaranteed on either.
- Meeting point. Marina de Albufeira for most boats; a beach for kayaks; Vilamoura or Portimão for some catamarans and the pirate ship.
- Cancellation cut-off in hours, not adjectives. "Flexible" means nothing; "24 hours before the start" means something.
- Child rules. Minimum ages and height limits are on the listing, and they differ between a RIB and a catamaran.
- What happens if the operator cancels for weather: refund or a new date. If you miss check-in you are not refunded on any platform.
- Time of day. A platform shows seats, not sea state; the how to choose guide explains why mornings are calmer.
Screenshot the voucher and the inclusions once you have paid. Marina signal is usually fine; a screenshot does not depend on it.
What to do if something goes wrong
Contact the platform first, through the booking in your account or app. That is where your money is, and the platform can refund, rebook or mediate with the operator in one place. Give the booking reference, what was promised and what happened, with photos if you have them. Contact the operator second, and only to sort out the day itself — a late boat, a changed meeting point, a missing pickup.
If the operator cancelled for weather, you are entitled to a refund or a new date; the skipper makes that call, normally the evening before or on the morning. If you were put on a different boat from the one named on the listing, that is a listing problem and the platform will usually take it up. If you cancelled inside the cut-off or missed check-in, expect no refund, whichever platform you used. A card chargeback is the last step, not the first.
