Who Mini-cruzeiros do Algarve are and where they sail from

Mini-cruzeiros do Algarve is one of the older names in Algarve boat trips. According to the operator's own website, the company was founded in 1978 by a skipper who later set up Dream Cruises in 2017; the two businesses have since merged and trade online as Dream Cruises at algarve-cruises.com. A listing under either name is the same company and, as far as we can see, the same boat.

They do sail from Albufeira. When we read the operator's site in August 2026, the boarding point was Marina de Albufeira, Pontoon H, berth 21, gate 4. One detail to be aware of: the official Portuguese tourism register still lists Mini-Cruzeiros do Algarve, Lda at Cais Q in Vilamoura Marina, an older address. Do not confuse Dream Cruises with Dream Wave, the Albufeira speedboat operator with the yellow Dreamer. Similar name, completely different boat and price.

The boat: Tangerina II, a 16-passenger sailing catamaran

The operator lists one vessel, the Tangerina II, a Fountaine Pajot Hélia 44 Evolution cruising sailing catamaran licensed for 16 passengers plus two crew. It sails under canvas when the wind allows and runs on two quiet engines when it does not, so a trip can be part sailing and part motoring. The saloon has large windows for a near all-round view, useful on a hot afternoon. The site does not say whether a toilet is available to passengers; a catamaran of this class normally has one below deck, but ask when you book.

That makes this a different product from the big shared catamaran trips at the marina. AlgarExperience's Belize Terceiro carries a crowd with a bar; the Tangerina II carries sixteen people and a skipper, closer to a shared private charter than to a party boat.

Trips, prices and what is included

The operator sells three shared trip lengths, plus two formats on request. Prices below are the operator's own, as listed on its site in August 2026:

• 3-hour cruise, departing 15:00: €69 per adult, €34.50 per child under 10.
• 4-hour cruise, departing 10:30: €90 per adult, €45 per child, with a light snack on board.
• 5.5-hour cruise, departing 10:30: €110 per adult, €55 per child, with a light snack on board.
• 2-hour sunset cruise and private charters: on request, priced when you ask.

Every trip includes one welcome drink per person. Bringing your own food or drinks on board is not allowed, according to the operator's site, so plan around the snack on the longer trips. Children under 10 pay half; the site gives no separate infant rule, so ask. Check-in is 30 minutes before departure.

Where the boat goes, and what a sailing catamaran shows of the caves

The operator's site does not publish a route or name the caves for each trip length, so ask if a specific stop matters. A sailing catamaran moves at a fraction of speedboat pace: the 3-hour afternoon trip will cover the cliffs, arches and beaches nearest Albufeira in the style of a coastline and caves cruise, while the 5.5-hour version has the time to go further west towards the Carvoeiro and Benagil coast and stop for a swim if conditions allow. Treat any cave view as from the water outside; a 44-foot catamaran does not enter the small caves.

If Benagil is on the route, the same rules apply as to every boat. According to the Capitania do Porto de Portimão notice (Edital 019/2024, amended by 009/2025), only motor boats enter, through the west entrance for about two minutes, at most five at a time; nobody lands on the inner beach and nobody swims or paddles in. Dolphins are sometimes seen from any boat on this coast, but no sighting is promised.

Who this operator suits, and who should pick another boat

Choose the Tangerina II if you want a calm, quiet day with sixteen people rather than sixty, if someone in the group wants to feel a boat under sail, or if you would like a half-private experience without paying for a whole charter. Couples, grandparents and families with children who dislike engine noise and spray are the natural fit; the 10:30 departures give the calmest sea for anyone prone to seasickness.

Choose something else if your priority is the inside of Benagil (a speedboat from about €34), a full beach barbecue day (the BBQ boat trips from about €70), or the lowest price for a coastline cruise. Where they check in

Check-in is at Marina de Albufeira, Pontoon H, berth 21, through gate 4, according to the operator's site; see the marina guide for how to get there and what to do if you are late. The ticket names the marina, so if yours says Vilamoura, query it before the day.

How to book and what to check

The operator takes bookings through a calendar widget on its own website and by email. Before you pay, confirm:

• The date, the trip length and the departure time (10:30 or 15:00 on the shared trips).
• The child price for under-10s and whether infants travel free.
• The cancellation and weather policy: the operator's site did not publish one when we read it, so ask by email and keep the reply.
• Whether a toilet is available to passengers and whether there is a swim stop on your trip length.
• For a sunset or private booking, the price quoted and the number of people it covers.

Mini-cruzeiros compared with AlgarExperience, Dream Wave and Santa Bernarda

AlgarExperience is the big-catamaran alternative from the same marina: the Belize Terceiro, many more passengers, a bar, BBQ days from about €70 and a fixed timetable. Dream Wave is the speed alternative: the yellow Dreamer to the caves and back in 2.5 hours from about €34, with a dolphin search on the way. Santa Bernarda is the family pirate ship, and it sails from Portimão, not Albufeira. The Tangerina II sits between them: slower and pricier per hour than a speedboat, far smaller and quieter than a party catamaran, and the only one of the four under sail.
