Who Boatrips are and where they sail
Boatrips – Boat Trips and Tours is a Lagos operator. Its GetYourGuide supplier page gives the legal name as Boatrips Act. Marítimo Turística Lda with an address in Lagos, and the check-in point as the maritime tourist pier in Lagos, on the Passeio dos Descobrimentos next to the town marina. We did not find any Boatrips departure from Albufeira. If you are staying in Albufeira, that is the first fact to weigh: Lagos is roughly an hour away by road, each way.
The operator's website talks about "several boats" and small groups, with safety and quality as its motto. The one boat named there is the Mononita, described as a typical wooden boat. The format on the longer trips is a bigger, more stable boat out to the headland, then a transfer to smaller boats that fit through the grotto passages. Some listings mention a snorkel opportunity when the boat is anchored. Reviews on the site praise crews that brief in several languages, French and Russian among them.
When we checked in August 2026, the supplier page listed these formats: a 75-minute cruise to Ponta da Piedade; a one-hour express grotto tour; a two-hour cave and coastal tour; a two-hour sunset cruise with a drink; a 1.5-hour private boat; a 2.5-hour sunset catamaran; a three-hour catamaran cruise with paddleboarding; a three-hour daytime sailing trip; and a seven-hour private catamaran. Why Boatrips shows up in glass-bottom and Benagil searches
The brand name is close to the generic phrase "boat trips", so it appears next to Albufeira results it has nothing to do with. Two corrections save people a wasted morning. First, we saw no glass-bottom boat in the Boatrips fleet or listings; if a viewing panel is what the children want, read our glass-bottom boat guide for the boats that carry one from Albufeira. Second, Boatrips sails west to Ponta da Piedade, not east to Benagil. A Benagil cave tour from Albufeira is a different product from a different harbour.
The overlap that is real is the coastline format. A two-hour Boatrips cave and coastal tour does for the Lagos cliffs what the Albufeira caves and coastline tours do for the stretch between Albufeira and Benagil: grottoes, arches and rock pillars seen from the water, with a smaller boat threading the openings. The scenery is different, the idea is the same.
Ponta da Piedade versus Benagil: what you see
Ponta da Piedade is the headland just south of Lagos: a cluster of golden pillars, arches and narrow grottoes that small boats weave through in an hour or two. There is no single famous chamber; the attraction is the sequence of passages, and the transfer to a smaller boat is what makes them reachable.
Benagil is one domed cave with a hole in its roof and a beach inside. Access is regulated: according to the Capitania do Porto de Portimão notice (Edital 019/2024, amended by 009/2025), motor boats enter through the west entrance for about two minutes, with at most five motor boats inside at once, and nobody lands on the inner beach or swims in. Who Boatrips suits and who should book elsewhere
- You are staying in Lagos or the western Algarve and want a short, low-commitment cruise: the 75-minute and one-hour formats are easy with small children.
- You like calmer, slower boats: the bigger boat does the open-water part, and the small boats work close to the rock.
- You want an evening trip with a drink rather than a full-day BBQ.
- You want a catamaran or a sailing boat without going to Albufeira or Vilamoura for it.
Book elsewhere if you are based in Albufeira and have one free morning: the road time both ways is longer than the shortest Boatrips trip. Book elsewhere if the target is Benagil, or if a dolphin search matters to you; the Boatrips listings we read do not sell dolphin watching, while the 2.5-hour caves and dolphins tour from Albufeira Marina does, from about €34 when we checked in August 2026. And book elsewhere if anyone in the group cannot step from one boat to another at sea; the transfer to the small boats is part of the product.
Where Boatrips check in
Check-in is at the maritime tourist pier in Lagos, not at Marina de Albufeira. Our marina guide covers the Albufeira side; for Lagos, use the meeting point on your voucher and give yourself time to park, as the waterfront is busy from mid-morning in July and August.
How to book and what to check on the listing
Boatrips sells through its own website and through GetYourGuide, where its supplier page groups every current trip. Before you pay, read five lines on the card: whether the trip includes a transfer to a smaller boat and how long you spend in the grottoes; whether a swim or snorkel stop is included and in which months; the minimum age and whether under-fives ride free; the cancellation window; and the weather rule. On every coastal trip the skipper decides on the day, and an operator cancellation is refunded or rebooked, while a missed check-in is not.

How Boatrips compares with the alternatives
In the same harbour, Lagos Grotto Trips sells the same grotto circuit on small boats; compare the two on departure time and group size rather than on scenery, which is shared. From Albufeira, the equivalent short coastal trip is the 2–3 hour coastline and Benagil caves tour from about €30, and the named speedboats of Dream Wave cover Benagil plus a dolphin search in 2.5 hours. Does Boatrips go to the Benagil cave?

Not that we could find. The website mentions several boats, including a traditional wooden boat called the Mononita, and the listings describe a larger boat plus small grotto boats, but none of them advertises a glass panel. How long is the shortest Boatrips trip?
About an hour. When we checked, the supplier page listed a one-hour express grotto tour and a 75-minute cruise to Ponta da Piedade; the cave and coastal tour runs two hours. Short formats suit small children and anyone unsure about seasickness, but they spend less time inside the grottoes than the two-hour trip.
Can I swim or snorkel on a Boatrips trip?
On some trips. The supplier description says the bigger boat anchors near Ponta da Piedade and that snorkelling is possible there, and the catamaran days include water time. The one-hour and 75-minute formats are viewing trips. Check the inclusions line on the exact listing and bring a towel only if it says swim stop.
Can I book Boatrips direct?
Yes, the operator has its own website, and the same trips are on GetYourGuide under the supplier name Boatrips.Lda.
